Application of the Trigonometric Polynomial Interpolation for the Estimation of the Vertical Eddy Viscosity Coefficient Based on the Ekman Adjoint Assimilation Model

In this study, a triangular polynomial interpolation (TPI) scheme was developed to estimate the vertical eddy viscosity coefficient (VEVC) on basis of Ekman model with adjoint assimilation. twin experiments, advantages and disadvantages estimating VEVC using TPI under different factors are discussed. The results indicated that (1) proves be better than cubic spline (CSI) Cressman (CI) schemes; (2) inversion more sensitive observations from upper ocean layers those lower layers, is less likely influenced by missing data; (3) for various boundary layer depths, remain consistent given distributions; (4) can considerably observational errors, resistant noise CSI CI (5) accuracy improved selecting temporal wind stress drag coefficients. practical method currents assimilating buoy stationed in Yellow Sea. showed successful estimation demonstrated precise current velocities obtained scheme. summary, study provides useful approach effective VEVC.
